Poetry

NEW! For sale at Lulu.com, "John's Compendium of Icky Little Nursery Rhymes."

Come to the dark side of Mother Goose with John's Compendium of Icky Little Nursery Rhymes. Learn why Mother is disappointed with Steve, what Erin uses for fertilizer in her garden, and why Jaime doesn't look at herself in the mirror anymore. Thirteen twisted nursery rhymes, just right to read before bedtime!  Only $10.99  plus a couple bucks to ship it to you.

My poetry style generally falls along the line of "vivid imagery with subtle undertones" in contrast to much of today's modern poetry, which falls more into the category of "subtle imagery with vivid undertones." See some examples of my poetry, both speculative and conventional in the links on the left.

I have had poetry nominated for the 2005, 2006, and 2007 Science Fiction Poetry Association's "Rhysling" award, and several poems published in a variety of small press publications including; The Tipton Poetry Journal, Star*Line, Illumen, The Magazine of Speculative Poetry, and Raven Electrick (coming soon!)

My poem, "What if..." was selected as one of 50 poems picked by the Arts Council of Indianapolis for IndyGo's "Shared Spaces/Shared Voices" public art contest. These 50 poems will be placed on the buses in the Indianapolis Public Bus system for riders to enjoy.

Short Story Writing

I have had some success in the small press market (both print and online) with several short stories.  "The Brass Man," will someday be a five chapter novella about the battle between science and traditionalism on a lone island nation in an unidentified post apocalyptic world. The first three chapters were originally published in Andromeda Spaceways.

my short story, "Elwin's House" published in Issue 21 of Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine, received an Honorable Mention in The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 2006 along with one of my favorite poems, "Minotaur" (a response poem co-written with Jaime Lee Moyer, published in The Magazine of Speculative Poetry).

Statistics and Engineering

I am a Six Sigma Master Black Belt having completed intensive 300 hour Master Black Belt training through AIT, as well as teaching and coaching Black Belt and Green Belt students.  My specialization is in engineering development, manufacturing, and transactional processes. My areas of interest and study include Evolutionary Operations, Exploratory Data Analysis, and Library data analysis. In the area of electronics assembly, I lead the development of electronics assembly soldering processes, and serve on the advisory board of Circuits Assembly Magazine.

See the links at the left for some of my papers, presentations, and statistical analyses.

Miscellaneous

I like to dabble with other types of art forms; including matching my poetry with my father's photography in a media called the "haibun," and in creating wire sculpture from baling wire.

I am a Trustee and President of the Tipton County Library Board. Click on the link at the left to see the progress in our renovation and expansion project!
